Telephoning

Warren Ellis

I always loved the covers of those 1950s-era sci-fi books. More often than not the stories were uninteresting, but I'd gaze on the covers and imagine my own stories based on them. Not that my own stories were likely any better than what the blokes who were paid 2-cents per word wrote, but they suited me.

That Warren so much enjoyed a story so relentlessly tragic as he describes here is really not surprising. No, not surprising at all.

I really need to make some time to read this judging by Warren's description. There's something about tragic stories that makes me happy.

Also, you can't really go wrong when the story is titled "Space Prison". It's from that school of naming that's precise, to the point, and oh so sinister. Lovely!
